Remember Your "Why"

The work of anti-racism and social justice is not for the faint of heart. Many of you may be experiencing, if not now then you will later, the sting of disconnection from your family or friends who think you have gone too far.

You may be questioning yourself if all you have been doing since May is making a difference. There is so much to unlearn and so much to relearn, you may begin to wonder if your family and friends were correct in their assumptions.

They are wrong. You have not gone too far. You are right where you need to be. There is no time table on what you need to unlearn and relearn. Every day that you make a choice to commit to this work is valuable, needed, and impactful...more than you may know.

When you feel like quitting, think about why you started. Why did you commit to this journey? What made you say "enough is enough...I can no longer be a bystander...I must DO something"? Tap into your "why" when your own doubts and naysayers try to tell you otherwise. Also remember that what you are doing goes beyond you. You are making an impact in your family and your community and coming alongside those who don't have the privilege that you have.

The natural human response is to turn away from discomfort, but sometimes we have to lean into the discomfort because that is where we find strength and resilience and the beginnings of true change.

Here at Embrace Action we are all about providing you the education, resources, and tools to help you navigate the challenging aspects of your anti-racism journey.
