OUR VISION & MISSION

Embrace Action is an inclusive, grassroots organization that partners with families and groups to develop and strengthen the skills and resources needed to effectively advocate for racial equity and diverse communities. Committed to the vision of racial equality, Embrace Action is developing programs that offer parents and groups the resources, tools, and educational support to be more actively engaged in anti-racism programs and to seek racial equality.

WHO WE ARE

EMBRACE (Empowering Mothers to Battle Racism and Confront inEqualityAction is a non-profit organization advocating for anti-racism awareness. Founded on June 8, 2020, EMBRACE Action is building a coalition of families who are committed to confronting inequalities and demanding change.

Our story began on June 1, 2020. In response to national unrest and heightened activism and fury over the killing of Minneapolis resident George Floyd, our co-founders joined the first anti-racism march with friends and family in their hometown of Frisco, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. After marching with their sons, these women committed to work with other parents and groups in their community to shine a light on racial inequities and to formulate strategies and solutions to empower our future leaders to be vocal advocates for racial justice and equality. Out of this desire to create awareness,
EMBRACE Action was born. With the help of a committed web development team, a group of high school and college interns, and the unwavering support of their family and community, this organization came to fruition.

A week later,
EMBRACE Action officially launched, offering learning programs to the Frisco community and beyond.  When Kaanji was asked how these three, suburban working moms who had never organized before were able to start EMBRACE Action in less than a week, she wrote, “as a Black woman whose Black son on the verge of adolescence, I knew the urgency of this movement. I know that the world can be better and we can do better - we just need to know how. The 13th century poet Rumi wrote: 'start a huge, foolish project, like Noah…it makes absolutely no difference what people think of you.' It was our desire to start something big and impactful that led us to create EMBRACE Action."

OUR VISION

The EMBRACE Action vision is one where families engage in the active process of identifying and confronting racism and where communities work together to challenge and change systems, structures, policies, practices, and attitudes that perpetuate racism.  EMBRACE Action works to empower parents to teach children how to confront inequalities when they encounter them and to be leaders in the anti-racism movement.

OUR MISSION

The EMBRACE Action mission is to grow and nurture families who are committed to learning about racism and inequality.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

EMBRACE Action believes that to counter structural racism, it is necessary to acknowledge and name race and racism with children early and often. It is no longer acceptable to avoid the conversation because it is uncomfortable. The world is living out the violence in our silence. In order for us to confront this structural racism, we must choose to get uncomfortable and have conversations within our families. EMBRACE Action offers educational opportunities for parents to arm them with the right words and the confidence to talk openly with children about race and racial inequality. We believe that in order to change the world, we must first start by changing the narrative within our homes; our intent is to help parents feel comfortable doing just that.
